Ride along the historic O'Shannassy Aqueduct Trail on our scenic mountain bike tour.

Traversing 12 km of the O’Shannassy Aqueduct Trail this adventure will have you weaving through pristine Mountain Ash forests, mature fern gullies and bubbling creeks. The trail follows a now disused open-water aqueduct that once supplied Melbourne with all its water needs. It is a predominantly flat track with one short incline and a couple of fun rollers just before the turn off to the Redwood Forest. Following a slight downhill section you’ll arrive at your destination. Here you’ll disembark to forest-bath amongst the majestic Californian Redwood trees, some of which stand at 55m high, towering to the sky. Wander through the forest towards the river and explore the walking trails. Add your own twigs to the artistic nest installation and take that all-important selfie.

At the start of the tour your guide will run you through a safety briefing and kit you out with a helmet, gloves and mountain bike. At the end of the ride we’ll meet you at the Redwood Forest car park to load up the bikes and transfer you back to Warburton. Your guide will be on hand throughout the activity guiding and assisting you through the adventure.

We’ve called this one the Donna Double and it’s not for the faint of heart. 

Descend 6 km downhill through stunning Mountain Ash forest with the occasional panoramic view out over the valley below. Disembark at Ben Cairn, a popular site for abseiling located above Warburton. The abseil site is accessed via a 300m steep track, which leads to a rocky outcrop with heavily forested view of the valley below.

Here our guides will kit you out with a harness and helmet, run you through a safety briefing and demonstrate correct abseiling techniques. Once you’ve got a handle on the basics, we’ll commence the activity progressing to a forward facing abseil if you dare! This site offers abseils ranging from 15m – 30m.

Once you’ve had a few abseils you’ll hit the trail again riding 12 km along a quiet gravel and bitumen road. We’ll meet you at the junction of Donna Buang Road and Don Road and load up the bikes for your transport back to Warburton.

Dash to the top of the lookout tower located at the summit of Mount Donna Buang for picturesque views of the valley below before starting your descent.

Your mountain bike descent starts from the summit and is a 36 km downhill ride through stunning Mountain Ash forest with the occasional panoramic view out over the valley below. Majority of the ride is along quiet gravel and bitumen roads. After a short but steep climb the final 10km stretch of riding is along the iconic O’Shannassy Aqueduct Trail a now disused open-water aqueduct that once supplied Melbourne with all its water needs. At Dee Road picnic area you’ll cruise the final downhill section joining the Warburton to Lilydale Rail Trail for a short ride back to Oscars on the Yarra.
